Slick Roads Lead to Beckham County Crash

A single-vehicle crash occurred early Sunday morning in Beckham County. According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the accident occurred around 11 a.m. on February 14th, on Interstate 40 in Elk City.

Suede Hamel, an 18-year-old of Stillwater, was driving eastbound on I-40 when he lost control of his truck, struck a guardrail, and rolled down an embankment through a chain-link fence.

According to the OHP, Hamel was transported to Great Plains Regional Medical Center and subsequently admitted to OU Medical Center to be treated for a head injury.

A passenger in the vehicle, 20-year-old Ethan Deer of Perkins, was also transported to Great Plains Regional Medical Center to be treated for minor injuries.

The official cause of the crash was listed as “too fast for snowy road condition.”
