A fatal collision occurred on U.S. Highway 259 in McCurtain County, near Bethel, on January 7th. Nicole Jacobs, a 35-year-old woman from Pawhuska, was driving northbound on U.S. 259 when she crossed the centerline, crashing into 69-year-old Ellen Tom of Poteau.

According to the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, the Pawhuska driver continued down the roadway, hitting another vehicle driven by Eric Elias, a 55-year-old of Jenks.

Both Tom and Jacobs were transported to Plano Medical Center. Sadly, Tom was pronounced dead at the hospital. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family of the car accident victim.

Jacobs was treated for critical leg and trunk injuries. Elias, and passenger Eric Elias Jr., were uninjured.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
