A pair is arrested for drug trafficking on Norman school grounds

A police officer was patrolling the area near the tennis courts at the Oklahoma’s University of Science and Arts at around 10:25 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 6, when he witnessed a motorist driving erratically. He first saw him improperly change lanes before striking a curb near 1600 W Grand Avenue. After doing this, the motorist reportedly pulled into a parking lot located at 2100 S 19th Street.

Soon thereafter, the officer who’d witnessed the motorist’s impaired driving entered the parking lot. As the police officer approached the car to speak to the driver, he sensed that the man was intoxicated. He then advised the 54-year-old driver and his 25-year-old female companion that he’d need to search their vehicle.

In searching the pair’s pickup truck, the officer found what’s believed to have been in excess of 60 grams of marijuana. He also reportedly found triple that amount worth of what’s suspected to be methamphetamine. Additionally, cash in excess of $8,000 was found inside the vehicle.

After the finding, both the Ninnekah man and Chikasha woman were placed under arrest for possessing, distributing and trafficking the two drugs. Their charges were later upgraded to aggravated ones since the alleged offense occurred near an academic institution. The man faces additional traffic-related charges including driving under the influence (DUI).

Both were booked into the Grady County Jail. It’s unclear whether bail will be set in the matter or when the next hearing in the case may be.

If you’ve been arrested on suspicion of possessing, distributing or trafficking marijuana or any other illicit drug, it’s important to know that a conviction for these charges can result in a long jail sentence. A Norman, Oklahoma, attorney may be invaluable.
